“Why did I choose technical education? I did
my homework—researched the market, talked to
students and employers—and found that technical

"I am extremely honored to be chosen as the 2004
State GOAL winner, and I look forward to representing
Okefenokee Technical College as an ambassador for technical

Automotive Technology
Tech Prep Student and Foundation Scholar
Continuing Education at the Marine Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Florida
"Before I even graduated from OTC's Automotive
Technology Program, I had passed two ASE certification
exams and been accepted at the Marine Mechanics Institute

I was easily accepted at this institute that is known
world wide for training students to work on boats,
outboard motors, and other marine motors."

was hired by the hospital before I even graduated

Rachael Denton
Human Resources Assistant at Baptist Village
2001 graduate of Business Office Technology
"One of my favorite things about my training
was that it was never boring. I was very attracted
to the technology of the computers. The work ethics
that we practiced in the classroom, like attendance
and punctuality, were very valuable to me when I
took the job at Baptist Village immediately after
my graduation." |

Sue Harper
2000 Graduate of Cosmetology
Owner of Southern Style, a salon, spa, and barber shop in Brunswick, Georgia
"I can't say enough about the cosmetology program
at OTC and my instructor. Mrs. Harkleroad gave me the drive and
push to do well. She kept everything exciting, and
we were all so prepared for the state board exam." |

Ryan Mock
2001 Graduate of Welding and Joining Technology
Employment:
GATX
"The skills I acquired in the welding program
at OTC got me in the door at GATX. I had a good instructor
who helped me learn the basics of welding, and I was
well-prepared for the job. Recently, Mr. Thompson had
to be out a day and called me to teach for him. That
was quite an honor to be asked to teach for a man who
is so respected in his field."

Jason Strickland
2003 graduate of Computer Information Systems
Employer: ATC Technical Services Supervisor
Alma Telephone Company (ATC/AccessATC)
"I manage the technical support operation for
Alma Telephone Company (ATC/AccessATC). In addition
to that, I have been working on my Bachelor of Information
Technology from American Intercontinental University
on line. I have such good memories of my classes
at OTC. I especially appreciated Carol Shugart. She
managed to teach and still have fun; she was a knowledgeable
friend as well as an instructor. Over half of the
coursework for the IT degree consisted of programming
concepts, sql database administration, and visual
basic/object oriented programming; I do not think
I could have done it without the foundation I received
at OTC.."
