Transient Students

Enjoy your ride at OTC!

Transient students who wish to enroll in online courses that are hosted by Okefenokee Technical College should apply through the Georgia Virtual Technical College (GVTC).

If OTC is not currently offering a course you'd like to take, you may be interested in becoming a transient student. The Georgia Virtual Technical Connection (GVTC) is the virtual division of the Technical College System of Georgia. Please visit the GVTC website at www.gvtc.org to learn more.

If you have met the requirements and are interested in becoming a transient student, the GVTC website will guide you through the online application process and then forward all necessary paperwork to Okefenokee Tech.

After your application is submitted to GVTC, it is reviewed for accuracy and forwarded, electronically, to your home college for approval by your Registrar. If your request is approved the application and Transient Agreement Form (signed by the Registrar and the Office of Financial Aid) are forwarded to the host college. If the host college determines that you can be registered in the course you have selected, you will be notified by email. The host college next provides you will all information you will need to successfully register for your course(s).

Transient student Requirements:

  • A student must be in Good Standing
  • A student must be Regular Status
  • A student must have successfully completed 17 semester hours of credit at OTC.

Transient students and Financial Aid:

  • A student may receive HOPE at the host school; if eligible.
  • A student WILL NOT receive the Pell Grant at the host school.  The host school will notify the home school (OTC) on or around mid-term of the student’s enrollment status.  If the student is still enrolled in the transient course, the Pell grant will be paid to the student by the home school (OTC) for the transient hours.  Please note that the Pell grant for transient hours may not necessarily be paid at the same time as the normal Pell disbursement.

NOTE: A student is allowed to attempt only 17 semester hours as a transient and only grades of ‘C’ or better will be transferred.
