Robert Sweat Retires From OTC

Robert Sweat

Robert Sweat, Career Placement Director at Okefenokee Technical College, was honored with a retirement luncheon on June 28, 2006, for his 29.5 years of service at the college.

Current OTC employees gathered in the Miller Lecture Hall to congratulate Mr. Sweat and to present him with a retirement gift. Dr. Thaxton, President of OTC, thanked Robert for his years of professional service to the college, saying to him, “You are such a part of this college’s history – anyone taking your place will have a difficult time following in your steps.”

After the presentation, everyone enjoyed a delicious, reunion-style meal of fried chicken, vegetables, salads, casseroles rolls, and desserts prepared by the staff. When one staff member asked Sandy, Robert’s wife, if she had Robert’s “honey do list” ready, she commented, “Oh, he has his own list. I don’t have to make one.”

Robert’s retirement was effective June 30, 2006. He plans to work in his yards and spend more time with his family. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sweat have two children, Cassi Sweat Middleton (spouse - Mark Middleton) and Erick Sweat (wife - Robin). Robert and Sandy have three grandchildren.

Mr. Sweat joined the staff at OTC as an evaluator in 1977 when the college was named Waycross Ware Tech. Over the years at OTC, Robert has served in several positions, including Director of Job Placement/Special Populations Coordinator and Evaluator. He has also taught preparatory classes and contributed to the growth and quality of student services at the college in innumerable ways. He will be missed.
