Hayes Is
Recipient of Brooksie A. Pike Scholarship
Ramona “Erica” Hayes (center) was recently
named as the Fall 2007 recipient of the Brooksie A. Pike
Scholarship. Cindy Tanner (right), OTC Foundation Director, and
Ollie Harkleroad (left), OTC cosmetology instructor, were on
hand to congratulate Hayes and present her with the award check.
The Brooksie A. Pike Scholarship was
established by Mr. and Mrs. John Pike and other family members
to pay tribute to Mrs. Brooksie Pike, who had a forty-year
career in cosmetology. To be eligible for the scholarship,
applicants must be full-time cosmetology students entering their
final quarter at Okefenokee Technical College with a minimum of
a 3.0 grade point average and excellent quarterly work ethics
grades.
Hayes is a 2003 graduate of Pierce County
High School. “Being at Okefenokee Technical College,” states
Hayes, “has been a wonderful experience. You cannot ask for a
better staff and a better college.” Erica plans to use her
scholarship funds for expenses related to her licensure exam.
