OTC Foundation Director Cindy Tanner (right) congratulated Rodriguez and presented her with the $300 award on behalf of the OTC Foundation trustees, OTC President Gail Thaxton, and the Pike family. Rodriguez expressed her gratitude to the Pike family and everyone who helped her succeed. She will use her award check toward the cosmetology state board exam fees.

Her records indicate that Rodriguez has excelled in the OTC cosmetology program. She has a 3.97 GPA and has clocked over 100 extra hours in the lab. According to her program instructor, Ollie Harkleroad (left), Olvido arrives on time, stays late, is very eager to learn, and is very proud of her professional choice.” On her application, Rodriguez wrote, “The cosmetology program has been one of the greatest experiences of my life, and I am thankful for this opportunity.”

The Brooksie A. Pike Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. John Pike and other family members to pay tribute to Mrs. Brooksie Pike, who had a forty-year career in cosmetology. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be full-time cosmetology students entering their final quarter at Okefenokee Technical College with a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average and excellent quarterly work ethics grades.

Two Brooksie A. Pike Scholarships are awarded each year to outstanding cosmetology students at Okefenokee Tech. The OTC Foundation would like to congratulate Olvido Rodriguez and thank Dr. John Pike and Penny Pike for establishing the scholarship fund.
