OTC Holds Commencement Exercises

Okefenokee Technical College’s Summer and Fall 2006 Commencement Exercises were held on Friday, January 12, 2007, at 7 p.m. at the Waycross Middle School auditorium. Following the invocation by Dr. Steve Pearce, Waycross Fire Chief Cedric Scott delivered the commencement address. Cedric Scott, Dr. Gail Thaxton, and Dr. Steve Pearce

After congratulating the graduates, Chief Scott encouraged and challenged them to apply principles of discipline, persistence, and character to attain their personal and career goals. Patrick Simmons, Georgia Fatherhood Coordinator and SGA Advisor, introduced Scott.

Diplomas and Associate of Applied Science degrees were awarded by Dr. Ronald Key, Vice President of Instructional Services; Dr. Steve Pearce, Vice President of Student Services; and Dr. Gail Thaxton, President of OTC, to graduates from eleven different counties.

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Gail Thaxton, who congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to continue learning. Her comments were followed by the ceremonious “moving of the tassel.”
