Southeast Georgia Landscape Training Is Huge Success

Over 120 industry professionals attended the Southeast Georgia Landscape Training held February 2, 2012, at Okefenokee Technical College (OTC).  The program featured horticulture and landscape experts who shared the latest information on pesticide regulations, turf management, and landscape solutions.

Andy Brannen, OTC vice president for economic development, and Willie Chance, UGA county extension agent & urban agriculture outreach coordinator, welcomed speakers and participants to the OTC Waycross Campus and introduced program organizers - Mark Deal, OTC horticulture instructor and Jason Rubenbauer, OTC continuing education director.

The Economic Development Division of OTC partnered with the OTC Horticulture Club, UGA Extension Office, Georgia Center for Urban Agriculture, University of Florida Cooperative Extension Office, and Georgia Green Industry Association (GGIA) to make the training conference a success. Featured speakers were Bob Chabot, Director of Horticulture & facilities at the Jacksonville Zoo; Erin Harlow, Duval County extension agent; Jason Ferrell, UFL extension weed scientist; Bodie Pennisi, UGA extension horticulturist; Vic Dove, Patten Seed Company, Larry Figart, Duval County extension agent; Bobby & Blake Wright, Wright’s Landscaping & Irrigation; and Eileen Buss, UFL entomologist.

“This event is fast becoming the premier training opportunity in Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida for landscape professionals and horticulture related industry workers,” stated Deal. “Everyone seemed to be very pleased. Participants stated that the level of training was appropriate and the presentations were interesting, informative and relevant.”
OTC officials would like to thank everyone who helped make the event successful, especially the event sponsors or supporters: Jerry J’s, Nalley of Brunswick, and Phillips Turf and Ornamental.
Georgia Green Industry Association (GGIA) members held a quarterly Chapter 4 GGIA meeting as part of the event.  Chapter 4 solicits membership from 32 counties in Southeast Georgia.
