Holly Thornton Receives OTC Foundation Scholarship

Holly Thornton of Patterson was selected as a spring quarter 2009 recipient of an OTC Foundation Academic Scholarship. According to Foundation Director Cindy Tanner, recipients of these scholarships must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and meet other specific criteria determined by the Foundation scholarship committee.

OTC President Gail Thaxton is shown here presenting Thornton with her scholarship check. Thaxton extended congratulations to Thornton for accomplishments thus far and encouraged her to continue her education after OTC.Holly Thornton and Dr. Gail Thaxton

Thornton is a full-time student in the nursing program at Okefenokee Technical College and looks forward to being the first college graduate in her family. Her career goals are to work as a LPN for a while and then return to college to become a registered nurse (RN).

“I love attending school at Okefenokee Tech,” said Thornton. “Everyone there is so helpful and makes you feel like family.” Thornton and her husband have two small boys.

Six OTC Foundation academic scholarships were awarded in April to deserving students who made application for awards. In addition to Foundation academic scholarships, OTC Foundation trustees award toolbox scholarships, hardship grants and scholarships, and a number of restricted or named scholarships each quarter.
