Brantley Telephone Company Donates Internet Equipment to Benefit Okefenokee Technical College Students

WAYCROSS (08-11-08) – In an effort to further the educational opportunities for telecommunications students in the area, Brantley Telephone Company recently donated a variety of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) equipment to the Okefenokee Technical College Foundation for the computer information systems and electronics programs at Okefenokee Tech. BTC Donation

This equipment, valued at approximately $130,000 new, makes it possible for Okefenokee Technical College to simulate an actual DSL Internet platform, giving students the opportunity to build, monitor and trouble-shoot from the comfort of the classroom.

At a meeting on the college’s Waycross Campus, OTC President Gail Thaxton expressed her appreciation to Dr. Wade Strickland and Mrs. Rosemary Strickland for their support of technical education through this contribution. “Today’s graduates must be skilled in the latest technology,” stated Thaxton, “and the rapid changes in the telecommunications and IT industry require a huge investment in updated equipment. Please accept our genuine thanks.”

Okefenokee Tech’s CIS instructors, Derrell Harris and Eddie Murray, along with various OTC administrative staff were on hand to welcome BTC representatives and to view the donated equipment.
