Tanner Named Director of Public Relations

Cindy TannerFor the past 14 years, Cindy Tanner has been making a significant difference in the lives of students enrolled at Okefenokee Technical College and in the Waycross community as well. She has worked to secure student scholarships for deserving students, and has supported our community through the American Cancer Society and the Lighthouse Institute.

She began her teaching career in Clarke County in 1986, and in 1992 came to work at Okefenokee Technical College as instructor in the English department and in the area of Developmental Studies.

She received her Associate’s Degree at Waycross College and her Bachelor’s of Science Degree at the University of Georgia in English. She holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State College.

In 1997, she took on the additional role of Library Coordinator and designed the library-media services for the technical school which resulted in a $44,000 grant for library startup. She is the recipient of the Rick Perkins Award of Excellence, and she was named by students as Instructor of the Year, 1999. In 2005, she was named Director of Instruction/Resource Development Coordinator. She organized the first “Toolbox Golf Tournament” for student scholarships in November 2005, and she initiated the first Endowed Scholarship at OTC in April 2006.

In her new role as Director of Public Relations, Mrs. Tanner has the responsibility of developing strategic communications and marketing plans for the technical college. Her new duties include management of publications and information, special projects and activities, media relations and press conferences. She is also responsible for student and public inquiries and preparation of the annual report on accomplishments.

Mrs. Tanner has always demonstrated positive leadership, and she has maintained a high level of effort, enthusiasm, and commitment to students as well as for institutional advancement. She is married to Tony Tanner and is the mother of three children, Tess, Kali, and Tony.
