Waycross Rotary Recognizes Tiffany McLean for “Service above Self”

Tiffany McLean of Alma was presented the 2013 “Service Above Self” award for Okefenokee Technical College (OTC) and recognized January 28, 2014, by the Rotary Club of Waycross for exceeding normal expectations in the workplace. Tiffany McLean, financial aid specialist at OTC, was nominated for the award by the OTC faculty and staff who applauded Tiffany for her exceptional service to students and colleagues in 2013.

Dr. David Morton (right), scholarship committee director for the Waycross Rotary Club, presented McLean with the award at a weekly lunch meeting. “I’m very honored,” said Tiffany. “This is really special.”

McLean has held the position of financial aid specialist since 2010. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Valdosta State University and is married to James P. McLean. James and Tiffany have two children, Kacie and Dylan.

In nomination letters to the selection committee, McLean’s colleagues describe her as a “trouper,” stating that “each day Tiffany demonstrates an exemplary customer-service attitude and responds to student issues with genuine concern.”

“Tiffany works diligently to ensure that each student at OTC receives the financial aid he or she is entitled,” stated one of her coworkers. “She is tireless in her efforts to expedite the paperwork and always takes extra time to explain the steps involved in an effort to help new students better understand.”

“Countless students praise Tiffany each semester. Even with all her extra job duties, she is never too busy to assist a colleague or student,” stated a colleague. “She cheerfully volunteers for additional projects, like the QEP Festival.”

According to another OTC employee, Tiffany had to take on a great deal of additional responsibility in 2013 when the financial aid director accepted a position with another organization and the financial aid assistant retired. “Tiffany has worked countless overtime hours, on holidays, and on weekends in order to meet student demand. She has basically taught herself advanced financial aid processes and developed procedures for streamlining financial aid, yet Tiffany has never lost focus in her pursuit to assist students.”

“We are all very proud of Tiffany and appreciate her hard work and loyalty,” stated OTC President Dr. Glenn Deibert. Rotary President Butch Miller and Dr. Deibert again congratulated McLean for being selected among OTC employees.
