OTC Student Receives Street Rods Scholarship
Selena Strickland (right) was recently presented a scholarship check by Cindy Tanner, OTC’s Director of Resource Development. The scholarship was made possible by South Georgia Street Rods, Inc. Mrs. Strickland, a Brantley County resident, is in the Auto Collision Repair program at Okefenokee Tech where she painted this 1956 VW Beetle (oval window) owned by Jackie Harrison. Her instructors, Jack Dixon and Terry Simmons, agree that Strickland takes pride in her work and has a superior work ethic. If you are a Volkswagen guru, you know that Strickland had to disassemble the Beetle and paint each part separately. She also installed Bentley mirrors and made other improvements. Strickland plans to specialize in minor collision repair, custom paint, and restorations. If you would like to see this classic and many others, be sure to attend the annual April Fool’s Rod Run March 31 at the Waycross Fair Grounds.
