Kala Rentz Receives Ministerial Fellowship Scholarship at OTC

Kala Rentz (Ware) was recently named as an Okefenokee Ministerial Fellowship Scholarship recipient for Okefenokee Technical College. The award of $500 is generously donated each year, since 2005, by the Okefenokee Ministerial Fellowship to help students with program-related expenses.

Ms. Rentz is a nursing student at OTC, a 2008 Ware County High School graduate, and a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. She has excellent grades and has been recognized for her academic accomplishments numerous times on the OTC Academic Achievement and President’s Lists. Kala enjoys helping others and is community minded, assisting with park clean-up projects, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, gathering care packages for military personnel, and assisting with Operation Christmas Child.

Kala is confident that she has made the right choice in choosing OTC. “Once I was accepted into the nursing program, I was given the start date of fall 2013,” states Kala on her scholarship application. “To my surprise, on August 15, 2012, I got a call from Mrs. Brenda Kirkland asking if I could start the program Monday. I was beyond excited. I am now half way through my first semester and I know, without a doubt, this is where I was meant to be. I absolutely love my teachers and my program. My instructors go out of their way to make sure we student have all the tools we need to be successful. When I graduate in August 2013, I will be proud to say that I am an LPN from Okefenokee Technical College.”

Rentz will use the scholarship money to help pay for tuition and program-related costs. “I am very grateful to the Okefenokee Ministerial Fellowship for this assistance,” stated Kala, as she received her award check. “I’m not working in order to focus on my classes, so the scholarship will help take some of the financial burden off my parents. Thank you, and may God bless you.”

After graduating from OTC, Rentz plans to work as an LPN and continue her education in order to work as a register nurse.
