OTC Recognizes Medical Assistants during MA Week

The Okefenokee Technical College Medical Assisting department is gearing up to celebrate Medical Assistants Recognition Week October 15–19, 2007. Medical assistants will be recognized across the country during this special week and honored on Medical Assistants Day, October 17, 2007.

Medical Assisting is an allied health profession whose practitioners function as members of the healthcare delivery team and perform administrative and clinical duties. With their unique versatility, medical assistants are proving to be the allied health professional of choice for this decade and beyond. In fact, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assisting continues to be projected as one of the fastest growing occupations.

Debra Downs, the program chair of the OTC Medical Assisting program, is especially proud of her current and former students for their hard work and dedication to the Medical Assisting profession. For the past six years, the Medical Assisting program has been able to boast of a 100% pass rate on the National Registry Examination.
