Jaki Johnson, criminal justice instructor at Okefenokee Technical College, has been invited to participate in the 2012 Oxford Round Table to be held at Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford, Oxford, England. Forty or fewer delegates worldwide are accepted to attend the Oxford Round Table. Ms. Johnson will be a delegate for the July 2012 session, which will address issues on “True Threats of Terrorism.”
The Oxford Round Table is an international educational not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to promote education, art, science, religion and charity by means of academical conferences and symposia and by publication of scholarly papers. The Oxford Round Table is a unique forum, not a conference in the conventional sense, but rather an opportunity for scholars and leaders to discuss government policy in a collegial, "think-tank" atmosphere.
The Oxford Round Table seeks to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of contemporary issues that affect the public good in all its various forms and ramifications. The public good is expansively interpreted by the Round Table to include all matters that enrich the human experience and enhance the human condition.
Past themes of meetings have included considerations of human rights, social welfare, economics, religion, ethics, morals, law, medicine and the liberal arts and sciences. Each session is designed around a format that enables participants to present papers and to engage in discussions regarding those papers in both formal colloquy and informal dialogue.
Invitations are sent to selected persons throughout the world. These individuals are identified through several screening processes: by nomination of previous participants in the Round Table; from recommendations to the Round Table advisors who, also, are actively involved in higher education and public school leadership; published articles and research interest of professors; from recognized presentations and awards of state and national organizations; and by invitations to individuals in successful universities, organizations or school districts. The foundation of the success of the Round Table is the assurance that this learning community will be composed of an interdisciplinary group of academics and educational leaders.
