Dr. Keith Johnson Is Keynote Speaker at Upcoming OTC Commencement, January 30

Keith Russell Johnson, M.D., Chief Anesthesiologist and Medical Director for the Department of Anesthesiology and Peri-Operative Medicine at the Mayo Clinic Health System of Waycross, will deliver the keynote address at the Okefenokee Technical College (OTC) commencement Thursday evening. The January 30 ceremony will begin promptly at 7 p.m. at the Waycross Middle School Auditorium.

In addition to his work at Mayo, Dr. Johnson is a managing partner of Southeast Georgia Anesthesia, LLC, an organization he helped establish. He is also co-founder and managing partner of AmCare Group, LLC, a contract management and consulting company based in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Dr. Johnson considers Mauldin, South Carolina, his hometown, since he was raised there from the age of four. He has a strong conviction of community responsibility and actively promotes education through a mentoring program and through his service on the OTC Board of Directors.  He was, in fact, recognized as a certified board member by the Technical College Directors Association (TCDA) at the TCSG 2011 Leadership Conference in Savannah in 2011, shortly after taking the oath of office.

As an OTC Board Director, Dr. Johnson joins other board members in communicating community needs to the college president and administration. Directors interpret state board policies and provide supplemental policies to ensure that the needs of area business and industry are met to the highest possible degree and in the most cost effective and efficient manner.

Dr. Johnson holds a B.S. in biology from The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina; a master’s degree in health services administration from the Medical University of South Carolina; and a doctorate of medicine from the University Of Alabama Birmingham School Of Medicine.

After graduating medical school, he attended the Medical College of Georgia for his internship and residency in Anesthesia and Peri-Operative Medicine. During his final year of residency, he was selected to be chief resident. After completing residency, he worked for a short time providing general anesthesia in Valdosta prior to establishing his practice in Waycross.

Additional related professional experience includes his work as a department director and hospital administrator for seven years prior to attending the University Of Alabama Birmingham School Of Medicine.

Dr. Keith Johnson is married to LaDonna Johnson, and they have four wonderful children: Caleb, Joshua, Destinee and Trinitee.

The public is invited to join Dr. Johnson and OTC board members, trustees, faculty, and staff January 30, 2014, for commencement to recognize and celebrate OTC graduates. Family and friends of the graduates are encouraged to arrive early. Okefenokee Technical College is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
