OTC Supports the “It Can Wait” Campaign

Okefenokee Technical College (OTC) officials recently launched a 31-day promotion aimed at demonstrating support for the “It Can Wait” campaign, which encourages drivers to avoid texting while driving.  “Our student’s lives are simply too valuable to not remind them of the perils of texting and driving,” said Amanda Morris, a coordinator of the OTC promotion.

While AT&T launched the program in 2009, the telecommunications company announced in May that Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and more than 200 other organizations had joined them in a major effort to expand the ICW no-texting-while-driving campaign.

The goal is to be loud and create a national movement – and change behavior.  OTC promoted the program during the month of October by posting announcements throughout the campus and creating a display for the OTC Library.  The display included materials containing detailed information about the dangers of texting and driving. Brochures were also available. The program encourages students to join the movement by taking an online pledge to avoid texting while driving.
