GED Graduation Ceremony Held

Okefenokee Technical College held its Adult Education Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, October 25, 2007, at 7 p.m. in the Waycross Middle School Auditorium in Waycross, Georgia. GED graduates from six counties - Bacon, Brantley, Charlton, Clinch, Pierce, and Ware - were in attendance. 

The ceremony began with the procession of the graduates to “Pomp and Circumstance.” The invocation was given by Adult Education Director, Mr. Peter Mills, and the presentation of the colors was led by the Ware County High School Color Guard.

Mr. Elexis Williams of Clinch County set the mood for the memorable occasion when he sang “God is Able” acappella. Greetings were given by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Steve Pearce.  Afterwards, an inspirational address was given by the guest speaker, Dr. Gail Thaxton, President of Okefenokee Technical College.  Clinch Co. Dr. Thaxton, Dr. Pearce, and Mr. Andy Brannen, Dean of Business and Industry Services, presented the graduates with their certificates.  The following Clinch County residents were awarded their GED certificates: Amanda Deloris Finch, Monica Michelle Griffis, Alysia Holland, John Abram Mixon, Victoria Michelle Sutton, and Claudia Jeanette Thompson.
After receiving their certificates, the graduates participated in the ceremonious moving of the tassel.  The benediction prayer was led by Mr. Andy Brannen.  Many proud family members and friends greeted the graduates outside in true celebration of the graduates’ achievements. 

Adult Education classes are offered free of charge.  Georgia residents receive a $500 Hope Voucher for earning their GED when they enroll in an institute of higher learning.   If you are interested in earning a GED certificate, please contact Mrs. Heather Goodman, at 487-5673 or hgoodman@okefenokeetech.edu.
