OTC Forestry Students Tour Smith Logging

Okefenokee Technical College forest technology students recently visited Smith Logging in Pearson, Georgia, and toured the site. Mr. Wayne Smith's logging operation consists of one of the biggest swamping crews in the South and uses over two million dollars in equipment.

Tommy Peagler, OTC's forestry program instructor, coordinated the trip and described Smith Logging as a well-organized swamp logging operation. According to Peagler, Rayonier Industry representatives met him and his students at the Smith Logging site and shared how Rayonier benefits from Smith's operation by getting quality logs from an experienced logger.

Those participating in the tour included Rusty Tatum (L to R), Daniel Deloach, J.T. Murray, Rayonier Representative Chris Carey, Cody Sanders, Matt Hendrix, OTC Instructor Tommy Peagler, Kim Hrabar, and Rayonier Representative Glynn McCalister.
