Brooksie A. Pike Scholarship Awarded

Kathy Davis, cosmetology program advisory committee member recently presented a check to cosmetology student Carol Williams, who is the recipient of the Brooksie A. Pike Memorial Scholarship for the fall 2006 graduating class.

The Brooksie A. Pike Scholarship was established by Dr. John Pike and other Brooksie Pike Scholarshipfamily members to pay tribute to Mrs. Pike, who had a forty-year career in cosmetology. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be full-time cosmetology students entering the final quarter at Okefenokee Technical College with a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average and excellent quarterly work ethics grades.

Carol, a Douglas resident, graduated from South Georgia College in 2003. Although she has worked in other fields, she has always wanted to become a cosmetologist. Now that Carol is about to graduate, she says that she know she made the right decision. Mrs. Harkleroad, her instructor, describes Ms. Williams as an excellent student. “She works hard and is always willing to assist others.”
