OTC Students Selected for 2012 Bagwell Foundation Scholarship Awards

Sherri Carter and Kristen Howard were recently selected to receive a Bagwell Family Foundation Scholarship from the Okefenokee Technical College Foundation according to OTC Foundation Executive Director Cindy Tanner. Both Sherri and Kristen are working toward a licensed practical nursing credential. Sherri is a widow and has four adult children. She was recently named to the President’s List for summer semester, is an active member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church, and volunteers for several community events.

Kristen is married and has one child, Lucas. She has always had a passion for nursing as have her father who has a BSN and her mother who is an RN. After graduating, Kristen plans to pursue a master’s degree and eventually teach nursing.

Both scholarship recipients will receive a $500 monetary award made possible by Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Bagwell, Forsyth County business and civic leaders.

In 2005 Tommy and Chantal Bagwell established a $500,000 Bagwell Family Scholarship endowment fund to provide scholarships for students attending technical colleges located near their business sites. The family business, American Proteins, Inc., currently has three locations, including one in Alma, Georgia. Scholarship recipients are chosen using several criteria including proximity to the company’s operation sites and academic success.

As a stipulation of the scholarship, all of the recipients have pledged to give back to the college over the course of their lifetime an amount equal to what they received. OTC President Dr. Glenn Deibert, the OTC Foundation Chair, Mr. Larry Paulk, Kristen, and Sherri extend gratitude to the Bagwell family for their generosity.
