Holly Thornton of Patterson was selected as a spring quarter 2009 recipient of an OTC Foundation Academic Scholarship. According to Foundation Director Cindy Tanner, recipients of these scholarships must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and meet other specific criteria determined by the Foundation scholarship committee. Okefenokee Tech Has New Class/Work Schedule
In an effort to reduce utility costs and provide more effective use of energy resources for faculty, staff, and students, the Waycross Campus of Okefenokee Technical College will begin a shortened work week and class schedule January 2, 2009. Selena Strickland, a recent graduate of Okefenokee Technical College, is featured on the front cover of the March 2008 issue of FenderBender magazine, a periodical dedicated to covering the latest news in automotive collision repair. Adult Education Honor’s Banquet Held
The theme of the 2008 Brantley County Adult Education Honor’s Banquet, “Hooked on Education,” added color and meaning to the annual event held this year on June 12, 2008, at the Nahunta First Baptist Church Social Hall. The décor for the banquet included fishbowls containing live goldfish as table centerpieces, strings of paper fish with a graduate’s name on each fish, fishhooks and fish net. Ware County Receives “Road to Readiness” Award
Recently, Ware County was honored with a "Road to Readiness" Award at the State Workforce Investment Board meeting at Stone Mountain. Altogether, seventy-four Georgia counties were involved in the Work Ready project. Ware County was one of eleven counties chosen to receive the “Road to Readiness” award which recognizes those counties that have exceeded goals and standards of expectation set by the board. Okefenokee Tech Receives “Stay In School” Grant
Okefenokee Technical College (OTC) has been awarded a $61,375 grant aimed at helping young people stay in school. The "Stay in School" grant is a competitive grant, totaling $1 million; it is funded through Georgia's Stay in School program. Okefenokee Technical College was one of nine recipients out of 34 schools in Georgia's Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE) to be approved for these funds. Read more.

Blackshear Elementary Teachers Complete Class
Learning computer software can be fun. Several teachers from Blackshear Elementary School recently completed Okefenokee Tech’s SCT 100 class in order to earn PLU credit. Their instructor, Laree Thomas, described the Tuesday night group as very enthusiastic and gregarious. They named themselves the “Tuesday Night Talkers,” but according to Thomas, the “talking” was about their studies. Read more.

Entrepreneurship Camp – “Exploring the Possibilities of Entrepreneurship” is Huge Success Thirteen Brantley County FBLA Middle School students participated in the first ever Entrepreneur Camp funded by a grant from the One Georgia Authority. It’s Official – State Funds OTC Expansion in Waycross and Alma
Governor Sonny Perdue had recommended funding for two building projects for Okefenokee Technical College back in January and indications were favorable that the funding would be approved, but now it is official. The General Assembly has appropriated the bond funds in the FY 2007 budget to complete both proposals. Read more.
