The Welding and Joining Technology
diploma is designed to prepare
students for careers in the welding
industry. Program learning
opportunities develop academic,
technical, professional knowledge
and skills required for job
acquisition, retention, and
advancement. The program emphasizes
welding theory and practical
application necessary for successful
employment. Program graduates
receive a Welding and Joining
Technology diploma, have the
qualifications of a welding and
joining technician, and are prepared
to take qualification tests.
The Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welding
technical certificate of credit
program teaches good health and
safety practices as well as
introductory knowledge and skills in
oxyfuel cutting and shielded metal
arc welding in both the flat and
horizontal position.
The purpose of the GTAW program is
to teach introductory welding and
knowledge skills in plasma cutting
and gas tungsten arc welding. To
provide a structural sequence of
credit courses that will enable a
person to either be employed in a
welding area or to increase their
proficiency in their current job is
the goal of the program.
The purpose of the Plate SMAW
(Shielded Metal Arc Welding) program
is to teach good health and safety
practices as well as basic
mathematics skills, introductory
welding knowledge, and skills in
oxyfuel cutting, flat position,
horizontal position, vertical
position, and overhead position
welding.
Pipe SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc
Welding) is a program that provides
the knowledge and skills for welding
in today’s modern manufacturing
industry. The purpose of the program
is to teach good health and safety
practices as well as teach basic
mathematics skills, introductory
welding knowledge, skills in
oxyfuel cutting, flat position,
horizontal position, vertical
position, overhead position plate
welding, pipe welding and
preparation for industrial
qualification. Courses in the
certificate program will be taught
simultaneously with the welding
diploma program.
The Wire Welding certificate program
is designed to teach good health and
safety practices as well as teach
introductory welding knowledge and
skills in oxyfuel cutting, gas metal
arc welding, and flux cored arc
welding. Courses in this certificate
program will be taught
simultaneously with courses in the
welding diploma program.
