The
Automotive Technology program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare
students for careers in the automotive service and repair profession. The
program includes electronics, mechanical and parts replacement, trouble-shooting
or diagnosis, automatic and manual transmissions. The student is trained on most
systems front he front of the vehicle to the rear of it. Industry and safety
requirements are stressed. The Automotive Technology program at Okefenokee
Technical College is an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Certified
Program. This certification means that the instructor, curriculum, equipment and
tools have all met ASE requirements.
IS AUTOMOTIVE
TECHNOLOGY THE RIGHT CAREER FOR ME?
Do you like working with your hands? Do you follow specific instructions well?
Are you in good physical condition? Are you mechanically inclined? Do you have a
talent for repairing things? Do you give close attention to detail and accuracy?
If "yes" is your response to these questions, and you have a sincere
desire to move forward in a success-oriented program of study that can lead to a
challenging and profitable career, you are ready for the Automotive Technology
program of Okefenokee Tech.
AUTOMOTIVE
TECHNOLOGY IN THE MARKETPLACE
Graduates of the Automotive Technology program of Okefenokee Tech are trained to
become highly-qualified automotive technicians employed by their dealerships or
independent garages. Students who have met all requirements are allowed to spend
one quarter in internship. With the amount of increased auto traffic, the need
for trained technicians is great. Graduates who become master certified
technicians have unlimited opportunities.
TRAINING
Automotive Technology classes are limited to 16 students, so each student is
assured of one-on-one attention. The one-on-one student/teacher relationship is
extremely important in dealing with complex technical training such as that
required in learning to use the technical equipment that is part of the
automotive industry. Students are trained using the latest equipment on the
market. Due to the small class size, the instructor is able to focus on each
student's needs and on the developing skills.
WARRANTY
The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education department guarantees
employers that graduates of state technical colleges shall possess the skills
and knowledge as prescribed by state curriculum standards. Should any graduate
employed within two years of graduation be deemed lacking the said skills, the
student shall be retrained in any technical college at no charge for
institutional costs to either the student or employer.
