Program Description
The purpose of the GTAW program is to teach introductory
welding and knowledge skills in plasma cutting and gas
tungsten arc
welding. The goal of the program is to provide a structural
sequence of credit courses that will enable a person
to either be employed in
a welding area or to increase their proficiency in their
current job.
Length of Program
Length of program varies with the student’s ability
to schedule classes.
Entrance Date
Students are accepted quarterly.
Entrance Requirements
Visual acuity test strongly recommended
Age
16 years of age or older
Education
High School Diploma or GED is not required.
Advisor
An advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course.
A program advisor will be assigned by admissions.
Salary Range
Salary Range $20,800 - $35,360 annually
Job Market
Welders perform welding (GTAW) on carbon steel, stainless
steel and aluminum plate and/or pipe in all positions.
Tack welders make small welds to hold parts in place.
Welding operators operate machines and equipment.
Other jobs include fitters, and inspectors.
Personal Traits Required
Important attributes for a welder are good eyesight, manual
dexterity, hand eye coordination, critical thinking skills,
problem solving, and the ability to apply technology to the
work requirement.
