Program Description
The Welding and Joining Technology diploma is designed to prepare students for careers in the welding industry.  Program learning opportunities develop academic, technical, professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes welding theory and practical application necessary for successful employment.  Program graduates receive a Welding and Joining Technology diploma, have the qualifications of a welding and joining technician, and are prepared to take qualification tests.
 
Program Length
A minimum of 73 credit hours is required for graduation.
A full time student should expect to complete requirements in 4 quarters.  

Salary Range
$16,640 to $37,440 annually

Career Opportunities
Welders perform the actual welding.
Tack welders make small welds to hold parts in place.
Welding operators, operate machines and equipment.
Welders’ helpers maintain shop and equipment.
Other jobs include welder assemblers, fitters, inspectors, sales.

Career Traits/Requirements
Important attributes for a welder are good eyesight, manual dexterity, hand eye coordination, critical thinking skills, problem solving, and the ability to apply technology to the work requirements.
