Program Description
Overhead Shielded Metal Arc Welder prepares students for careers in welding.

Program Length
A minimum of 18 credit hours is required for graduation.
A full time student should expect to complete requirements in 4 quarters.  

Salary Range
$14,560 to $20,800 annually

Career Opportunities
Welders perform welding (SMAW) limited to flat and horizontal positions.
Tack welders make small welds to hold parts in place.
Welder’s helpers maintain shop and equipment.

Career Traits/Requirements
Important attributes for a welder are good eyesight, manual dexterity, hand eye coordination, critical thinking skills, problem solving, and the ability to apply technology to the work requirement.
