Program Description
The purpose of the Locomotive Mechanical Systems certificate
is to prepare individuals to work as mechanical technicians
in the rail industry specifically focusing on diesel/electrical
locomotives. Upon completion of this technical certificate
of credit, students will be trained for entry-level positions
in the rail industry as locomotive mechanical technicians.
Length of Program
Length of program varies with the student’s ability
to schedule classes.
Entrance Date
Students are accepted quarterly.
Entrance Requirements
OTC Placement Exam
Age
16 years of age or older (must be 18 for employment)
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Advisor
An advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course.
A program advisor will be assigned by admissions.
Salary Range
$15-$19 an hour
Job Market
Graduates with a Locomotive Mechanical Systems Technician
TCC are trained to perform basic tasks involved with the service,
repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment involved
in the railroad industry. This certificate prepares someone
for an apprentice job within the railroad industry.
Personal Traits Required
Individuals should be motivated, hard working, honest, dependable,
and possess troubleshooting abilities.
