Program Description
Flat Shielded Metal Arc Welder prepares students for careers in shielded metal arc welding.

Program Length
A minimum of 16 credit hours is required for graduation.
A full time student should expect to complete requirements in 3 quarters.  

Salary Range
$16,640 to $33,280 annually

Career Opportunities
Welders perform welding (SMAW) on carbon steel plate in all positions.
Tack welders make small welds to hold parts in place.
Welding operators operate machines and equipment.
Welders’ helpers maintain shop and equipment.
Other jobs include assemblers and fitters.

Career Traits/Requirements
Important attributes for a welder are good eyesight, manual dexterity, hand eye coordination, critical thinking skills, problem solving, and the ability to apply technology to the work requirement.
