Program Description
The Environmental Horticulture program shall introduce students
to the many career choices in the horticulture fields. The
course studies of each specialization will prepare students
to face both the needs and challenges of future employment.
The student will be introduced to all phases of the industry
from greenhouse operations, landscape maintenance, plant identification,
equipment safety and maintenance, landscape design, customer
relations and others. Graduates of the program will receive
a diploma qualifying them as a horticulturist.

Five quarters
Entrance Date
Students are accepted quarterly.

OTC Placement Exam
Age
16 years of age or older
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Advisor
An advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course.
A program advisor will be assigned by admissions.
Salary Range
Salary Range $14,000 to $30,000 annually
Job Market
The job market in the southeast U.S. remains strong for horticulture
and all allied fields. There are approximately 14 per cent
more jobs than trained employees to fill them. (2004)
Personal Traits Required
Individuals interested in green industry careers should enjoy
working outdoors. Jobs also require some physical activities
and working well with others. Horticulture careers do offer
a tremendous amount of job satisfaction and personal fulfillment.
