Program Description
It is the drafter’s job to prepare technical drawings
and plans used by workers to build everything from manufactured
products, industrial machinery, cars, and spacecraft to structures
such as houses, skyscrapers, or oil pipelines. Most drafters
now use computer-aided drafting (CAD) systems to prepare drawings.
Length of Program
Four quarters
Entrance Date
Students are accepted quarterly.

16 years of age or older
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Advisor
An advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course.
A program advisor will be assigned by admissions.
Salary Range
Beginning drafter $17,000-25,000
Designer $40,000+
Job Market
Employment of drafters is expected to grow about as fast as
the average for all occupations through 2010. Industrial growth
and increasingly complex design problems associated with new
products and manufacturing processes will increase the demand
for drafting services.
Personal Traits Required
Pays close attentions to accuracy and detail; follows specific
instructions; plans projects; good mechanical, communication,
and problem solving skills; visual aptitude. For some specializations
in drafting, artistic ability is helpful.
