Program Description
The Automotive Collision Repair program includes straightening metal, estimating the cost of repairs, removing and replacing parts, welding, painting, refinishing plastics and fiberglass, and using the newest parts and materials available on the market. Skills are taught in a job-like setting with a major emphasis on safety. Program graduates receive an Automotive Collision Repair diploma which qualifies them as major collision repair technicians or painting and refinishing technicians.
Program Length
A minimum of 67 credit hours is required for graduation.
A full time student should expect to complete requirements in 4-6 quarters.
Salary Range
$8-12 per hour
Career Opportunities
The Automotive Collision and Repair program prepares the graduate to work in areas such as automotive repair shops or motor vehicle dealers as well as for wholesalers of motor vehicles, parts, and supplies. Some graduates may choose to operate their own automotive body shop repair business. Other options may include insurance adjusting and estimators.
Career Traits/Requirements
The student should have good mathematics and reading skills as well as computer skills based on the need to be able to follow instructions and diagrams in print and computer based manuals.
