A/C-D/C Circuit Technician, TCC

Program Description
The purpose of the A/C-D/C Circuit Technician certificate of credit program is to provide a structural sequence of credit courses that will enable persons to either be employed in the low voltage field or to increase their proficiency in their current job. Program completers will gain knowledge and skills in the occupational areas of series, series/parallel circuits, network theroms, AC theory, oscilloscope operation, simple RLC circuits, filters, diodes, transistors, and applications.

Length of Program
The length of the program is typically nine months but varies with the student’s ability to schedule classes.

Entrance Date
Students are accepted quarterly.

Entrance Requirements
OTC Placement Exam

Age
16 years of age or older

Education
High School Diploma or GED

Advisor
An advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course. A program advisor will be assigned by admissions.

Salary Range
$16,640 to 24,960 annually

Job Market
Employment potential in the low voltage industry is very good. According to the U.S. Department of Labor- Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national employment growth in this field through year 2010 is expected to exceed 15%.

Personal Traits Required
Individuals pursuing a job in the low voltage field should be logical and enjoy problem solving. They should be meticulous and be able to follow instructions closely. They need good technical, mathematical, and drawing skills. Communication skills are useful, as is the ability to conduct basic research. They should also have good hand-eye coordination and not be color-blind.
