Applicants in each of the following groups will be ranked by application date for program selection. Selection will begin in the first group; each subsequent group will be considered in selection process until selection limit is reached.
- Students who have completed all core classes and the Central Service Assistant (CSA) Technical Certificate
- Students who have completed all core classes
- Students who have completed at least *two of the following courses
- AHS 1011 or 101 Anatomy and Physiology (or BIO 2113 or 193 Anatomy and Physiology I)
- AHS 109 Medical Terminology
- AHS 104 Introduction to Healthcare
*The remaining course must be completed prior to beginning SUR 102. Students who have not completed all core courses will not be eligible for graduation with the cohort selection group.
- In order for a student to be eligible, all core courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
- If any core course is repeated, the highest grade earned will be used to calculate the GPA.
- Transfer courses will be averaged at the grade received from the transfer institution.
- Exempted courses will be assigned a grade based on the score of the exemption exam.
To improve student success in the program, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that students complete all the program core courses before entering the surgical technology program.
Applicants will be notified by letter of a REQUIRED ORIENTATION meeting for all students with surgical technology or CSA technical certificate as a major. Students who fail to attend the orientation meeting or call the program director BEFORE the meeting occurs will be considered no longer interested in the program and will be removed from the selection list.
Program Requirements
Health Packet: Physical and eye exam. Student must show proof of MMR, DPT, PPD, and Hepatitis B vaccinations or sign a declination form.
Clinical Facilities will perform a criminal background check and drug screen before allowing any student to enter the clinical assignment.
All selections are reviewed and approved for compliance to these criteria by the Vice President for Student Affairs.
