Practical Nursing, Diploma

Program Description
Okefenokee Technical College’s Practical Nursing program gives students the skills needed to provide competent nursing care. Through academic and clinical training, the student learns to provide patient assessments, administer medications, and other bedside skills. Once passing the State Board Examination upon exiting the Practical Nursing program, the LPN will be able to function under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, physician, or dentist.

Length of Program
Core classes plus four quarters (day program)

Core classes plus six quarters (evening program)

Entrance Date
Several classes are offered each year at the Waycross Campus (day and evening), and one during the day at the Alma campus. See Admissions Office for next admit date.

Entrance Requirements
OTC Placement Exam
Completion of General Education and Allied Health Core Courses

Age
17 years of age or older

Education
High School Diploma or GED

Advisor
An advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course. A program advisor will be assigned by admissions.

Additional Requirements
Physical Exam, Hepatitis B vaccine, Immunization Record, Selection Process, Eye Exam, CPR certification and PPD tests required.

Salary Range
$19,200 - $20,160 annually

Job Market
Graduates can be employed at hospitals, doctors’ offices, school nurse clinics, nursing homes, home health, and many other public and private health agencies.

Personal Traits Required
A practical nurse must have good work ethics, be people oriented, and possess great organizational skills.
