Computer Essentials, TCC
Technical Certificate of Credit Program Description

The purpose of the Computer Essentials certificate is to provide short-term training that will help individuals understand the microcomputer and how it operates. This TCC will prepare adults to utilize the computer to perform such functions as keyboarding, word processing, desktop publishing, internet usage, network fundamentals, and electronic mail. This TCC will provide the training skills required for individuals to become proficient in the utilization of the personal computer and prepare them to re-enter the workforce and/or enhance their performance in their current job.

Length of Program

Length of program varies with the student’s ability to schedule classes.

Entrance Date

Students are accepted quarterly.

Entrance Requirements

OTC Placement Exam is not required.

Age

16 years of age or older

Education

High school diploma or GED

Advisor

An advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course. A program advisor will be assigned by admissions.

Salary Range

Average salary range is minimum wage to $9 per hour depending on experience.

Job Market

The job market for the Computer Essentials Specialist is good. Opportunities are available for part-time and full-time positions. Job prospects will be most favorable for those with the best technical skills and experience.

Personal Traits Required

A person pursuing a Computer Essentials certificate should show initiative, be willing to continue education as technology advances, be interested in computer application software, be organized, have the ability to multi-task, display a professional appearance, possess a strong work ethic, and have a desire to work in the office environment.
