Accounting, Diploma
Program Description

The Accounting program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for careers in the accounting profession.  Learning opportunities develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement.  The program emphasizes a combination of accounting theory and practical application necessary for successful employment using both manual and computerized accounting systems.  Program graduates receive an Accounting diploma which qualifies them as accounting technicians.

Length of Program
Four quarters

Entrance Date
Students are accepted quarterly.

Entrance Requirements
OTC Placement Exam

Age
16 years of age or older

Education
High School Diploma or GED

Advisor
An advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course.  A program advisor will be assigned by admissions.

Salary Range
Salary Range for the Accounting diploma is $14,000-$18,000 annually depending on level of experience.

Job Market
The job market for a person holding an Accounting diploma is good.  Opportunities are available for part-time and full-time positions.

Personal Traits Required
A person pursuing the Accounting diploma should want to work in an office environment, enjoy working with numbers, enjoy basic math, be able to solve problems, enjoy working with people, have a customer service attitude, have the ability to multi-task, give attention to detail, display a professional appearance, enjoy working with computers and computer application software, and have a strong work ethic. They should be discreet and trustworthy with a strong aptitude for numbers.
